Regency Period Sampler, 1820, by Caroline Sawyer. The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours green, blue, pink, silver and light brown. Verse reads, 'Blessed are they and only they, Who in the Lord their Saviour die, Their bodies wait redemption's day, And sleep in peace where'eer they lay'. Signed and dated, 'Caroline Sawyer's Work in her ninth Year 1820'. A good set of motifs, including a house with a garden full of hens and a peacock. A pair of decorative columns, embellished with flowers winding up them. Birds, a butterfly, flowers, potted flowering plants, lions and dogs. Framed in a modern wood frame with clear acrylic, in place of glass. Mounting: The sampler is glued around the extreme edges only to card, could easily be removed. Frame backed with chipboard and sealed with tape.
