1825 Regency Sampler by Mary Hinks at Miss Halliday's school. The sampler is worked in silk on a linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Wonderful border of flowers (roses) and leaves. Colours green, silver, red and grey. Verse reads,'CONSIDER all my sorrows Lord, And thy deliverance send, My soul for thy salvation faints, When will my troubles end. Yet I have found tis good for me, To bear my father's rod, Afflictions make me learn thy law, And live upon my God. This is the comfort I enjoy, When new distress begins, I read thy word I run thy way, And hate my former sins'. Signed and dated 'Mary Hink's Work Aged 12 1825'. Inscribed 'Mrs HALLIDAY'S SCHOOL' above the verse. A scattering of motifs, including birds and flowers. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is loose mounted onto cardboard. Frame backed with chipboard and sealed with tape.
