The sampler is worked very finely, in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours browns, cream, olive green and grey. Verse reads

Signed and dated 'Hannah Gay Work th? in the 12th Year of her Age and in the Year of our Lord 1810'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including a church, lions, dogs, birds, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, crowns, hearts, Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk and windmills.
