The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours browns, cream, green, pale blue, black, pink, copper and gold. Signed and dated 'Charloote White Her Work january the 12 1796'. A wonderful set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk, an angel (all of which have their hair sewn with real hair), the sun, birds, butterflies and flowers.
