1854 Sampler by Harriot Hesp

Victorian, dated 1854. 9.5ins high, by 7.5ins wide. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Fixed to card with brown paper dust cover.

The sampler is worked in fine wool and silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.

Simple line border.

Colours pink, cream, yellow, green, pale blue, dark brown, orange, red and white.

Alphabets A-Z in uppercase and numbers 1-12.

Signed and dated 'Harriot Hesp's Work Aged 10 1854'.

A good set of motifs, including a windmill,

a dog,

a bird,

a flower,

two crosses,

hearts,

two houses with gardens

and crowns.

CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes. A few stain specks, illustrated.

Minor stitch losses to letters of the alphabets and a couple of loose threads, illustrated.

Some colours slightly faded making them more difficult to read. No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, illustrated, otherwise sound and in our opinion ready to hang.
