1822 sampler by Sarah Harrild

George IV, dated 1822. 11.5ins by 8ins wide. Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Fixed to board with wood dust cover.

The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground, in variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

Meandering floral border.

Colors green, cream, blue, red, copper, gold, pink, olive green and black. Verses read
'Boast not thyself
To-morrow I shall see
For'ere to-morrow
Lifeless thou may'st be'

'Praise not thyself
Tis not a seemly sight
Let other praise thee
That affords delight'.

Signed and dated 'Sarah Harrild June 9 1822'.

A few motifs including birds, fir trees, crowns, potted flowering plants and fruit baskets.

CONDITION: Good. A few holes, worst illustrated.

One uniform, patchy stain, illustrated.

No stitch losses. Colors are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No color run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
