Detailed description and pictorial study of Sampler

MOVE TO:

Victorian Alphabet Sampler by Emma Cundell.

Victorian, circa 1850. 8ins by 11.75ins. Victorian Alphabet Sampler by Emma Cundell.

Framed in an old, wooden frame with glass. Glued onto cardboard backing.

The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case, numbers 1-15 and family initials.

Worked in cross stitch and algerian eye.

Short epigram reads 'Always speak the truth.'.

Signed and dated "Emma Cundell sept.5".

Simple line border.

The sampler is worked in fine silk threads throughout.

Graphite colour threads used.

CONDTION: Good.

No holes, but a slight frey, 5mm in the centre of the sampler, illustrated.

Very slight patchy staining.

A couple of very minor stitch losses to letters of the alphabets.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading.

The silks still have their original bright glossy sheen.

No colour run. Slight stretching.

Frame has very slight wear, not detracting, illustrated,

is otherwise sound and in my opinion ready to hang.
