1892 sampler by Ellen Roslett

Victorian, dated 1892. 17.75ins by 15.5ins. Professionally framed in a modern wood frame with glass. Loose mounted inside a cardboard mount with chipboard dust cover.

The sampler is worked in wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering diamonds border.

Colours red, cream, olive green, pale blue, light brown, dark brown, pink, purple, orange, green and black.

Aphorism reads

'Bear

the

(cross)

and

wear

the

Crown'.

Signed and dated 'Ellen Roslett 1892'.

A good set of motifs, including flowers,

dogs,

crosses, diamonds,

a fruit basket,

potted flowering plants and other motifs.

CONDITION: Fair. No holes but a couple of plucks to the ground, illustrated.

Stains and stain specks, illustrated.

Minor stitch loss to the motifs, illustrated.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.

Unevenly stretched, illustrated.

Frame showing slight wear, illustrated, otherwise sound and in our opinion ready to hang.
