Circa 1850 Castle by River Sampler

Victorian, circa 1850. 16.75ins by 12.5ins wide. Unframed.

The sampler is worked in fine wool and silk-like thread on canvas ground, in variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

Meandering border inside double line border.

Colours red, dark green, pale blue, copper, gold, light purple, light green, grey, olive green and black.

Alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-5.

Signature and date unreadable due to stitch loss.

A good set of motifs, including a castle and grounds with a couple in a rowing boat on a river next to it and birds flying above,

and crowns with family initials.

CONDITION: Generally Fair. No holes. No stains.

Some stitch losses to the border, divider lines, signature/date and letters/numbers, illustrated.

Some colours very faded making them difficult to read.

No colour run.
