Silkwork Sampler by Ann Bailey. George III, dated 1809. 10ins high, 2.75ins wide. Unframed.
The sampler has two alphabets A-Z in uppercase and numbers 1-10, the first alphabet all double letters.
Worked in a variety of stitches.
Signed and dated ''Ann Bailey her Work In the year 11th year of her Age In the Year of our Lord 1803"
with family initials TB and SB.
Simple line borders down the sides, meandering strawberry border at the bottom, greek key border at the top.
The sampler is worked in silk thread throughout. Cream, blue, dark brown, copper, black, mauve and green colour threads used.
CONDTION: Very Good, this little sampler would appear to have been packed away, flat, in a drawer for its entire 193 years. No holes. No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no fading. No colour run. Slight stretching in places.
