Detailed
description and pictorial study of Sampler
|
MOVE TO:
1842 Sampler by Sarah Milicent Tompson.
Victorian, dated 1842. 12ins by 17ins. 1842 Sampler by Sarah Milicent Tompson.

Framed in a modern, black painted wood frame with glass card backing.
The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase stacked in a pyramid.

Worked in a variety of stitches.

Verse reads 'Tis religion that can give, Sweetest Pleasure while we live, Tis Religion must supply, Solid comfort when we die.'.

Signed and dated ''Sarah Milicent Tompson Aged 10 Years 1842".

Meandering, floral border.

The sampler is worked in fine silk thread throughout.
Green, blue, red, copper, pink, silver and gold colour threads used.
A wonderful set of motifs, including finely embroidered flowers,

lions, dogs, birds, deer, potted flowering plants and butterflies.

CONDTION: Good.
A couple of holes.

Very slight patchy staining down the centre of the sampler.
No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading.
The silks still have their original bright glossy sheen.
No colour run. No stretching.
Frame has a chip on the top right hand corner, illustrated,

is otherwise sound and in my opinion ready to hang.
