Victorian Woolwork Sampler by May Slack. Victorian, circa 1870. 12ins by 16ins. Unframed with no glass.
The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-11.
Short epigram reads 'The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.'
Signed and dated "May Slack Aged 12 Nov 10th".
Zig zag border.
The sampler is worked in wool threads throughout. Cream, red, yellow, green, light brown, orange, pink and blue colour threads used. A few motifs of flowers.
Writing on the back of the former mounting card read 'May Slack born mothers Birthday January'.
CONDTION: Good. No holes. No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run.
