1765 Verse Sampler by Susana Cyanton.
Early George III, dated 1765. 10ins by 13ins. 1765 Verse Sampler by Susana Cyanton.
Framed in an old, gold coloured wooden frame with rippled, old glass.
Tacked onto a wooden mounting frame and linen backing.
The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-9.
Worked in cross stitch and algerian eye.
Short epigram reads 'Remember, Time will come when we must give Account to God how we on Earth do live.' There is also the lords prayer in the bottom half of the sampler.
Signed and dated "Susana Cyanton 1765".
Meandering, floral strawberry border.
The sampler is worked in fine silk threads throughout.
Black, green, gold, silver, red and blue colour threads used.
A few motifs including crowns, crosses and stars.
CONDTION: Slightly distressed.
A few holes around the border, illustrated, a 10mm hole in the bottom centre, illustrated and a few holes in the bottom right, illustrated.
No stains. Extensive stitch losses to the lords prayer, which is absent up to the line 'your daily bread'.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run. No stretching.
The frame has a some wear and chips, illustrated,
but is structurally sound
