MOVE TO:

George III, dated 1800. 12.75ins by 12.25ins. 1800 Green&White Sampler-Jessamine Lowdell.
Framed in an old, possibly original, black, ebonised wooden frame with glass.
Loose mounted onto a cardboard backing.
The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-10.
Worked in a variety of stitches.
Verse reads 'Virtues the choicest Beauty of the mind, The noblest ornament of humankind, Virtues our safeguard and our guiding star, That stirs up reason when our senses err.'.
Signed and dated "Jessamine Lowdell April 10 1800".
Cross linked chain border.
The sampler is worked in fine silk threads throughout.
Green colour threads used.
A scattering of motifs, including potted flowering plants with birds perched in them and flowers.
CONDTION: Slightly distressed.
A number of holes. The holes (illustrated) are located along the top middle, in the top right hand side and the and in the bottom right hand side of the sampler.
No stains. No stitch losses.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run. No stretching.
The frame is falling to pieces and needs some work on it.
