William IV, dated 1836. 12.5ins by 7.5ins. 1836 Motif Sampler by Sarah Leary.

Framed in an old, wooden frame with rippled, old glass. Loose mounted onto a wooden backing.

Geometric pattern border.

The sampler is worked in fine wool threads throughout.

Red, yellow, green, dark brown, pink and black colour threads used.

A good set of motifs, including lions,

a variety of birds,

rabbits, temples, fruit baskets,

fir trees with tiny birds perched in the top,

oak trees

and butterflies.

CONDTION: Good.

Three holes. One in the top middle, 5mm, one in the bottom right, 5mm and one in the bottom left, illustrated in pics above.

No stains. No stitch losses.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading.

No colour run. No stretching.

The frame has a lot of wear and chips, illustrated, but is structurally sound.

The sampler is quite wrinkled and would benefit from being stretched onto it's backing mount.
