MOVE TO:
1835 Victorian House sampler by Maria Ackroyd

Victorian house sampler by Maria Ackroyd dated 1835. . 21ins wide 21ins high. Framed in an old, black lacquered, wooden frame with rippled and dimpled, old glass. Tacked onto a wooden mounting frame and paper backing.

Worked in cross stitch throughout. Touchingly signed "Prepare to meet they God. Anno Domin 1835. What do they call my little girl maria Ackroyd is my name and on England is my Hall. Bradford is my dWelling place and Christ is my salvation. aged 9".

Meandering leaf and flower border. The sampler is worked in wool threads throughout. Black, blue, red, green, light brown, gold, purple, light green, orange, magenta, yellow and cream colour threads used.
Packed with interesting motifs, including a house with a garden and cow,

dogs, birds, angels, flowers, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, deer, trees,

butterfly, a church,

and another house and garden with a dog and a little girl, self-portrait maybe?

CONDTION: Very Good. No holes. Very very slight uniform browning of the ground material. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading. No colour run. No stretching. Frame has minor chips to the lacquer colored in, not detracting, illustrated,

otherwise sound and in my opinion ready to hang.
