Framed in a high quality, probably original mahogany frame with rippled, dimpled, old glass. Tacked onto a wooden mounting frame and linen backing. Worked in cross stitch throughout. Verse reads 'For here I learn how Jesus died, To save my soul from hell, Not all the books on earth beside, Such heavnly wonders tell, And this I markd to let you see, What care my parents took of me.

(the yellow staining is a digital picture effect not present in reality)

Signed above and dated "Susannah Hesketh 1844".

Richly embroidered floral border down two sides, with scroll beneath the signature at the top.

The sampler is worked in wool threads throughout.

Red, cream, light brown, dark brown, gold, black, pink, magenta, blue and white colour threads used.

A wonderful farmhouse is the main motif, complete with could they be gas lamps (?),

sheep in a field opposite, ducks in the pond, dog chasing the unlikely horned ram with red eys, trees and flowers.

CONDTION: Very Good. A number of small holes, less than 0.125 inches in size.

The holes (illustrated) are located in the middle left hand border, in the bottom right hand corner, and the and in the top right hand corner of the sampler. The holes are barely visible, blending into the backing colour. No stains or age darkening other than a slight patch in the top right hand corner.

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading. No colour run. The frame is in very good condition

with just three nicks out of the veneer in the corners, and the sampler is ready to hang.
