19thC Sampler by Harriet Munday. Circa 1830. 21ins by 16.5ins. Unframed with no glass. Loose with no backing. The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-12.
Verse reads 'While shepherds watched their flock by night all seated on the ground the angel of the lord came down and glory shone around. Fear Not said he for mighty dread had seiz(sic) Their troubled mind. Glad Tidings of great joy I bring to you and all mankind. To you in Davids town This day is born of davids Line the saviour who is Christ the Lord And This shall be the sign the heavenly babe you there shall find to human view displayd all meanly wrapiin(?) swathing hands and in a manger laid.'

Meandering strawberry border with birds in the corners.
The sampler is worked in fine silk threads throughout. Green, blue, dark brown, silver, gold and copper colour threads used. Packed with motifs, including a house,
trees, crowns, birds, diamonds, hearts and flowers.
CONDTION: Good. No holes. Uniform darkening of the backing canvas. No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. No stretching.
