1823 House sampler by Jane Park

1823 House sampler by Jane Park. George IV. 12.5ins by 17.25ins. Framed in an old, wooden frame with glass. Worked in a variety of stitches.

Tacked onto a wooden mounting frame and wooden frame backing.

A Verse entitled 'ON FAITH' reads 'When faith presents our Saviours death and whispers this is thine, Sweetly my rising hours advance and peacefully decline , While such my views the ratiat sun sheds a more sprightly ray, Each object smiles all nature charms I sing my cares away.

Signed and dated "Jane Park finished this work in the fourteenth year of her age 1823".

Meandering strawberry border, and gold strawberry divider line

The sampler is worked in mainly silk threads with black cotton threads for the writing. Black, yellow, green, light brown, white, light green, red and gold colour threads used.

A wonderful set of motifs, including very unusually, cows,

birds, flowers, butterflies, fruit baskets, trees and conifers, blossoming trees, stags

and a grand central house surrounded by flowers and garden.

CONDTION: Very Good. No holes. Uniform slight darkening of the linen ground. No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. No stretching. The frame is in good condition and the sampler is ready to hang.
