George III, dated 1810. 13ins by 7.25ins. 1810 Unfinished Verse Sampler-Margaret Jefferys.
Framed in a black, ebonised wooden frame with glass.
Loose mounted onto a cardboard backing.
Verse reads 'All you my Friends who now expect to see, A Piece of marking thus perform by me, Cast A smile on this my mean endevour, I'll strive to mend and be obedient ever.'.
Signed and dated "Margaret Jefferys Work Aged 9 years 1810 Fear God oby your parents".
The sampler is worked in silk threads throughout.
Green, copper, gold, blue and pink colour threads used.
Two motifs of stags.
The sampler appears to be unfinished.
On the back of the sampler is an old label that reads 'Property of d.m Todd. Work of her Great Grandmother'
CONDTION: Slightly distressed.
A few holes. The holes are located in the verse, in the top left hand corner and in the top right.
No stains. No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading.
No colour run. Slight stretching up the centre, worst illustrated.
The frame has some wear, illustrated,
but is structurally sound.
