1835 Alphabet Sampler by Margaret Woodward. William IV, dated 1835. 17.5ins by 8ins.

Unframed with no glass. Loose with no backing. The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-12. Signed and dated "Margaret Woodward. Smedley. Roadcheetham. Manchester. Born December 1835".

Place name and actual address Smedley Road, Cheetham, Manchester is mentioned. Divider lines in a number of patterns.

The sampler is worked in wool threads throughout. Purple, yellow, dark brown, black, orange, red and green colour threads used.

CONDTION: Good. No holes. A few patchy light stains, barely visible, less than 0.25 inches in size. The stains are in the bottom middle and the middle left hand side, illustrated.

 

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading. No colour run. No stretching. Half of bottom hem has come unstitched.
