1836 Sampler, by Jane Wood
William IV, dated 1836. 26ins by 22ins.

Unframed. The sampler is worked in cotton on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.


Meandering floral border.

Colors red, pale blue, black, pink, orange, green and brown.
Verse reads
'God bless my tender paents (parents) dear
And honoured May the bee
I never can reward them here
For what the have done for me'.

Signed and dated 'Jane Wood her work finished 1836'.

A good set of motifs, including a castle type building,

stars,

angels,

potted flowering plants,


butterflies,

birds in the branches of fruit trees

and flowers.


CONDITION: Generally Fair. A number of holes and tack holes to the extreme edges, worst illustrated.




A few slight patchy stains, illustrated.

No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colors are mostly good and strong, but pale blue slightly faded. No color run.
