Circa 1800 satin-stitch Sampler

George III, circa 1800. 14ins high by 28ins wide. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Simple line border, mostly hidden by frame.

Colours gold, cream, navy blue, pale blue, dark brown, white, black, light green, pink and light brown.

Good set of motifs, some finely detailed, including a church,

a dog,

birds,

flowers,

potted flowering plants, butterflies

and a stag.

Pencilled in signature before stitching can just be seen at the top.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. One stain and three dark stain specks to bottom edge, illustrated.

Some stitch losses/loose threads to the stag, flower motif and dog, all illustrated.

Colours are all exceptional with no noticeable fading.

Colour run around the dark brown threads of dog motif, worst illustrated.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
