1820 sampler by Sarah Jones

George IV, dated 1820. 17ins by 12.25ins wide. Framed in an old, possibly original, wood frame with rippled, old glass.

The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colors gold, pink, light green, green and white. Signed and dated 'Sarah Jones her work Oct the 20 1820'.

Large motif of a grand mansion with a row of fir trees and a fence with gate in front entitled 'St Jamess Park Lonn'. This depicts St James's park in London.

Other motifs include a fruit basket, birds

and flowers.

CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes. A number of stains, worst illustrated.

No stitch losses. Colors are slightly faded, but still well defined. No color run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing wear and chips, worst illustrated, but structurally sound.
