MOVE TO:
1845 Woolwork sampler by Sarah Palmer
Early Victorian, dated 1845. 17.25ins by 20.25ins. Mounted into an old wooden frame frame with old glass. Tacked onto a wooden backing.
A central verse reads 'Hasten O Sinner to be wise, And Stay not for the morrows Sun, The Longer wisdom you despise, The harder is She to be won'.
Signed and dated underneath, Sarah Palmer Age 10 Years 1845'.
Meandering strawberry, floral border.
Stitched in fine wool throughout.
Red, yellow, brown, orange, pink, cream, green and white colours.
Motifs of squirrels perched in a tree, nibbling a nut out of its paws,
birds perched amongst flowers,
trees, flowers,
butterflies, a temple,
fruit baskets
and peacocks.
CONDITION: Good. One tiny 2mm hole/frey, illustrated.

No staining, what looks like slight darkening around the borders is due to the lack of any backing. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong. No colour run. Slight stretching. The frame is coming apart in the top left corner, illustrated.

The veneered surface has chipped off on the sides in three of the corners, illustrated.
