1869 Memorial Sampler by Ann Greenwood
Victorian, dated 1869. 25.75ins by 25.5ins wide. 1869 Memorial Sampler by Ann Greenwood. Unframed and stitched to linen edging strips.

The sampler is worked in wool and cotton on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours red, cream, pale blue, green, light brown, dark brown, copper, light green, maroon and black.
Memorial verse reads
'In Memory of
Susey the beloved wife of Jabez stott
Who died January 30th 1854 aged 30 years
A loving wife A friend sincere
A tender mother lieth here
In faith she lived in hope she died
Her life was asked but was denied'.
Signed and dated
'Ann Greenwoods Work Aged 8 1869'.
Large central motif depicting two ladies standing either side of a tomb which is flanked by trees, with angels flying above.
CONDITION: Good. Tack holes with staining around the edging strips.
A number of stain specks to the sampler itself.
No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
