1842 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Bond

Victorian, dated 1842. 17.25ins by 12.25ins wide. Framed in an old carved wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours black, cream, blue, pale blue, dark brown, copper, gold, white, light green, magenta, dark green and pink.

Alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-22.

A Verse entitled 'The Lord is my Shepherd.' reads

'The Lord my pasture shall prepare,

And feed me with a shepherds care;

His presence shall my wants supply,

And guard me with a watchfull eye;

My noon-day walks shall he attend

And all my midnight hours defend.'.

Signed and dated

'Mary Bond Aged 13 - 1842'.

Packed with motifs, including castles,

butterflies,

flowers, fruit baskets,

squirrels, fir trees, hearts, crowns, birds

and potted flowering plants.

CONDITION: Good. A few holes.

  

One patchy stain along the left side.

No stitch losses.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.

No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition.
