1832 Miniature Silkwork Sampler by E H Preston
William IV, dated 1832. 8.5ins by 5.75ins wide. Framed in a 'plastic over wood' frame with rippled, old glass.
Tacked to wood dust cover.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Meandering floral and decorated border.
Colours light green, gold and magenta. Alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-10.
Signed and dated
'E . H . Preston . 1832 .'.
A few motifs including flowers, a crown,
diamonds
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Very Good. No holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing some wear and is weak in one of the corners, worst illustrated, but still sturdy enough to hang.
