Circa 1790 Silkwork Map Sampler by Juliana Lambert

George III, circa 1790. 19.5ins by 16ins wide. Framed in an old, possibly original, oval gilt over wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Stitched to linen with wood and brown paper dust cover.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Floral border.

Colours black, cream, blue, green, pale blue, light brown, light green, gold and pink.

Signed

'Juliana Lambert aged ten years'.

Map of England and Wales with counties and surrounding seas/channels.

CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of small holes and losses of ground around edge, worst illustrated.

No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear and has one chip, illustrated, but structurally sound and ready to hang.
