1835 Silkwork School Sampler by Ann Quine
William IV, dated 1835. 11ins by 12ins wide. Framed in an old, possibly original, wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours black, cream, magenta, dark green and gold.
Alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case.
Verse reads
'Give me a House that never will decay
Give me a garment that will never wear away
Give me a friend that never will depart
Give me a rule that can rule my heart'.
Signed and dated
'Ann Quine March 30 . 1835. Quadring School'.
A good set of motifs, including a house with a garden,
birds,
flowers
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Good. One repair and a few smaller holes, illustrated.
A number of patchy stains, illustrated.
No stitch losses other than to the repaired hole area.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
Slight colour run around the black threads, worst illustrated.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition.
