1825 Silkwork Sampler by Harriet Ludgate
George IV, dated 1825. 9.5ins by 7.75ins wide. 1825 Silkwork Sampler by Harriet Ludgate. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with non-reflection glass.

Stitched to card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Decorated zig zag border.
Colours light brown, cream, dark green, copper, black, olive green and pale blue.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-20.
Signed and dated
'Harriet Ludgate Work'd This in the 6th Year of her Age Finish'd July 15th 1825'.
CONDITION: Good.
Small hole to top left corner.
Two small patches where ground is thinning.
Stain speck below the date, and some slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
Very minor stitch loss to the border and a couple of letters of the alphabet.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang.
