George II, circa 1735. 17ins by 6.25ins wide. Circa 1735 Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Bryon. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with non-reflection glass.

Stitched to card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground.

No border, divider lines in various patterns.

Colours green, cream, light brown, pink and pale blue.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case, numbers 1-9 ad vowels.

Inscription reads

'GOD BLESS xxxx xxxx

A good set of motifs, including a lady wearing contemporary dress,

lions,

dogs,

flowers, birds,

fir trees,

hearts,

crowns, diamonds

and a fruit basket.

CONDITION: Fair. No holes.

A number of stains.

Stitch losses to the divider lines, inscription, motifs and letters/numbers.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
