Victorian, circa 1850. 14.75ins by 14.75ins wide. Circa 1850 Woolwork Sampler by Elizabeth Beard. Framed in an old 'molded composition over wood' frame with glass.

Stitched to linen with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Simple embroidered border.

Colours red, cream, green, black, light green, orange and blue. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-13.

Signed and dated 'Elizabeth.Beard.Her.Work.

Aged 10 185?'.

A good set of motifs, including two houses,

star,

blossoming tree,

hearts,

a lady and a gentleman, wearing contemporary dress,

two sheep

and butterflies.

CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.

Stitch losses to the border,

divider lines,

the signature and date,

motifs and letters/numbers.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound and ready to hang.
