The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Cross linked chain border.
Colours burgundy, cream, gold, green and black.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-20, then in multiples of 10 through to 50.
Verse reads
'The loss of time is much
The loss of truth is more
The loss of Christ is such
That no man can restore'.
Inscriptions read
'Dear Lord
Remember me'
and
'Remember
Loss Wife'.
Signed and dated
'Catharine Staley . December 15 1842'.
A good set of motifs, including fir trees, birds,
rabbits,
a dog,
hearts, diamonds,
crowns,
flowers, strawberries
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Fair.
A number of holes.
Several stains.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are faded, but still well defined.
Slight colour run around the green threads.
