1835 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Silvester
William IV, dated 1835. 10.75ins by 13ins wide. 1835 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Silvester. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and rippled, old glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours light brown, cream, green, navy blue, pale blue, dark brown and olive green.
Verse reads
'Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand
The first effort of a infant hand
And while her fingers on the sampler move
Engage her tinder thoughts to seek thy love
With thy dear children let her have her part
And write thy name thyself upon her heart'.
Signed and dated
'Mary Silvester Her Work Aged 9 Years 1835'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including a dovecot,
flowers,
fruit trees,
fruit baskets,
squirrels,
fir trees,
blossoming trees,
birds
diamonds,
a deer,
a sheep and a dog.
CONDITION: Good. A number of small holes.
No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
