1818 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Ann Vyse
George III, dated 1818. 10.5ins by 11.5ins wide. 1818 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Ann Vyse. Framed in an old, burr maple frame with gilt slip and glass.

Stitched to paper and loose mounted with wooden backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours black, cream, blue, green, dark brown, gold, copper and olive green.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-6.
Verse reads
'Sweet bud of Mary's bosom go
And live beneath her eye
There in the sun of beauty blow
Or taste of heaven and die'.
Signed and dated
'Mary Ann Vyse Aged 10 1818'.
A good set of motifs, including fir trees,
potted flowering plants
and fruit baskets.
CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes.
A number of stains and specks.
Some stitch losses to the alphabets,
number 1,
verse
and signature.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
No colour run.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang.
