1824 Silkwork Map Sampler by Elizabeth Mitchell

George IV, dated 1824. 16.5ins by 13.75ins wide. 1824 Silkwork Map Sampler by Elizabeth Mitchell. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Simple line border.

Colours black, cream, blue, maroon, gold and copper.

Signed and dated

'Eliz..th Mitchell 1824'.

Depicts a map of England and Wales with surrounding seas, oceans and channels.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

Several holes.

A number of stains.

Age darkening to the ground inside where the sampler was fixed to a stretcher frame.

No stitch losses.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

Very slight colour run around the black threads.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
