George IV, dated 1827. . 1827 Silkwork Sampler by Maria Battersby Mort. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Tacked over paper to chipboard, with brown paper dust cover.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours black, pale green, dark brown, gold, green and blue.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12.
Signed and dated
'Maria Battersby Mort, Aged 8 Years, March 28th 1827.'.
A few motifs including birds and flowers.
CONDITION: Fair.
No holes, although the ground is wearing thin in several places.
No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground inside the border.
Some stitch losses to the border, alphabets and numbers.
Colours are slightly faded.
Slight colour run around the black threads.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
