The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Simple line border.

Colour is red throughout.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12.

Verse reads

'Tis granted, and no plainer truth appears;

Our most important are our earliest years;

The mind, impressible and soft, with ease

Imbibes and copies what she hears and sees,

And through life's labyrinth holds fast the clew

That education gives her, false or true.'.

Signed and dated

'Harriet Ward . Aged 8 Years . 1834.'.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

A number of small holes.

Several stains and slight patchy discolouration of the ground.

Very minor stitch loss to the number 2.

Colour is slightly faded in places, but still well defined.

No colour run.
