Large 1838 Sampler by Mary Botterill
Victorian, dated 1838. 24ins by 24.5ins wide. Large 1838 Sampler by Mary Botterill. Framed in an old, burr maple frame with glass.

Tacked to wood.
The sampler is worked in fine wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours magenta, red, green, pale blue, pale green, light brown, copper, orange, pink and black.
Family initials.
Verse reads
'My God is reconciled
His pardoning voice I hear
He owns me for his child
I can no longer fear
Teach me to live that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed
Teach me to die that so I may
Rise glorious at the awful day'.
Inscription reads
'Be thou faithful unto death
And I will give thee a crown of life'.
Signed and dated
'Mary Botterill's Work Finished 1838'.
A good set of motifs, including flowers,
stars,
dogs,
swans,
birds,
squirrels,
potted flowering plants
and angels holding a crown.
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
A number of stains.
No stitch losses.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
Some colour run around the verse.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame in good condition.
