Victorian, dated 1869. 12.25ins by 12.25ins wide. 1869 Woolwork Sampler by Mary Alice Hilton.

Unframed and stitched to material backing.

The sampler is worked in wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Embroidered border.

Colours red, blue, yellow, green, dark green, pink, light green, orange, purple, maroon and black.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-16.

Verse reads

'Now that my journey's just begun

My road so little trod

I'll come before I farther go

And give myself to God'.

Signed and dated

'Mary Alice Hilton Aged 10 1869'.

Floral band underneath the verse.

CONDITION: Very Good. No holes.

A few small stains.

No stitch losses.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.
