1844 Silkwork Sampler by Susannah Turner
Victorian, dated June 20 1844. 16.25ins by 13ins wide. 1844 Silkwork Sampler by Susannah Turner. Framed in a modern carved-wood-effect frame with glass.

Stitched to linen with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours light brown, cream, blue, red, green, pale green, copper, gold, dark brown and olive green.
Verse reads
'REMEMBER NOW THY CREATOR IN THE
DAYS OF THY YOUTH WHILE THE EVIL
DAYS COME NOT NOR THE YEARS DRAW
NIGH WHEN THOU SHALT SAY I HAVE
NO PLEASURE IN THEM'.
Signed and dated
'SUSANNAH TURNER HER WORK FINISHED JUNE 20 1844 AGED NINE YEARS'.
A good set of motifs, including a dog in a basket,
two figures,
birds,
owls,
flowers,
fruit trees
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Fair.
A number of holes.
A few dark stain specks above the verse.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas, although the last letter in the verse may have been restitched at a later date.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.
Some colour run from the signature threads.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
