1782 Sampler by Apget Waddell

George III, dated 1782. 17ins by 8.5ins wide. 1782 Sampler by Apget Waddell. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, scroll decorated frame with glass.

Stapled to card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in fine wool and cotton on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

Simple line border, hidden behind the frame along both sides.

Colours olive green, pale blue, navy blue and red.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case, numbers 1-8, and family initials.

Signed and dated

'Apget Waddell age 1? 1782'.

A few motifs including potted flowering plants,

a bird,

crowns, dogs

and peacocks.

CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes.

A few patchy stains.

Stitch losses to the border, divider lines, letters, numbers 5 and 8, family initials, motifs and signature.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
