1815 Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Harrison

George III, dated 1815. 16.5ins by 10.5ins wide. 1815 Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Harrison. Framed in a modern wood veneer frame with card mount and glass.

Stitched to paper and loose mounted onto card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.

Rolling waves border.

Colours green and black.

Verse entitled 'Resignation.' reads

'And O! by error's force subdu'd,

Since oft my stubborn will

Prepost'rous shuns the latent good

And grasps the specious ill,

Not to my wish.but to my want,

Do thou thy gifts apply;

Unask'd, what good thou know'st grant

What ill, though ask'd, deny.'.

Signed and dated

'Sarah 1815 Harrison 1815'.

CONDITION: Good. No holes.

One pale stain to the verse.

Slight discolouration around the edges.

No stitch losses.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
