George III, dated 1767. 11.75ins by 7.75ins wide. 1767 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Comyns. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with rippled, old glass.

Stitched to card with brown paper dust cover.

The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

No border.

Colours pale blue, green, gold, cream and dark green.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and family names and initials.

24 IN THE YEAR 1764

WHEN THIS YOU SEE

REMEMBER ME

AND BEAR IN MIND

A FAITHFUL FRIEND IS

HARD TO FIND'.

Signed and dated

'MARY COMYNS BORN JULY THE 24 IN THE YEAR 1755 AN DID THIS WORK IN 1767'.

A scattering of diamonds.

CONDITION: Good. No holes.

A few light stains and slight uniform age darkening of the ground.

No stitch loss.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. Palest colour is difficult to read.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and ready to hang.
