Large 1856 House Sampler by Jane Clarkson
Victorian, dated 1856. 25ins by 26ins wide. Large 1856 Woolwork Sampler by Jane Clarkson. Framed in a wood and gilt frame with glass.

Loose mounted onto card backing.
The sampler is worked in wool, with a small amount of silk, on canvas ground, in backstitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours olive green, blue, light brown, dark brown, pink, light green, red and cream.
Signed and dated
'Jane Clarkson Work 1856'.
A good set of motifs, including a red brick house with a garden, farm animals, sheep grazing on the lawn and two swans in a pond,
fruit trees,
fir trees,
a large flower basket,
potted flowering plants,
butterflies
and flowers.
CONDITION: Good.
Old tack holes with staining around the edge.
A few light stains and specks elsewhere.
Minor stitch losses to the swans, pond and bottom of lawn.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.
Very slight colour run around the signature threads.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame showing very slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang.
