1811 Scottish Silkwork Sampler by Ann Gun
George III, dated 1811. 15ins by 13.25ins wide. 1811 Scottish Silkwork Sampler by Ann Gun. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours dark green, cream, dark brown, black, gold and magenta.
Family initials and a name.
Signed and dated
'ANN GUN ALYTH 1811'.
Alyth is a village in Perthshire, Scotland.
A good set of motifs, including birds, some in a cage,
two figures holding an object,
stars,
dogs, one in a kennel,
strawberries, a fruit tree,
rabbits,
fruit baskets,
flowers,
a thistle,
peacocks,
crowns,
fir trees
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
Two holes.
A few small stains.
One larger stain behind the fir trees.
Slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
Some stitch losses to the motifs and divider lines either side of the signature.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
