1776 Silkwork Band Sampler by Mary Pottle
George III, dated 1776. 23.75ins by 7.5ins wide. 1776 Silkwork Band Sampler by Mary Pottle. Framed in a modern wood frame with card mount and glass.

Loose on card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
No border, divider lines in various patterns.
Colours brown, blue, green, copper, cream and gold.
Inscriptions read
'LOVE THE LORD AND
HE WILL BE A TENDER
FATHER UNTO THEE'.
'All Earthly Things That
???? Thee And Let Thy
Thoughts In Heaven Be'.
Signed and dated
'Mary Pottle Her Worke 1776'.
A few motifs including two birds,
potted flowering plant
and a dog.
CONDITION: Fair.
Three holes.
A number of dark stain specks, and uniform age darkening of the ground.
Some stitch losses to the divider lines and second inscription.
A few loose threads.
Colours are slightly faded, making the paler threads difficult to read in places.
No colour run.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
