1723 Silkwork Sampler by Elisabeth Goodall
George I, dated 1723. 17.25ins by 10.5ins wide. 1723 Silkwork Sampler by Elisabeth Goodall. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
No border, divider lines in various patterns.
Colours magenta, green, pale blue, dark brown, copper, gold, black, light green, cream and blue.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case.
Verse reads
'Our Father Which Art In Heaven Hallow ed
Be Thy Name Thy Kingdom Come Thy W ill
Be Done In Earth As It Is In Heaven Give Us This Day Our D
aily Bread And For Give Us Our Trespasses As We Fo
r Give Them That Trespass against Us And Lead Us not I
nto temptation But Deliver Us From Evil Amen'.

A good set of motifs, including a castle,
bottle,
figures,
dogs,
birds, fir trees,
angels,
hearts, diamonds,
crowns,
fruit trees
and flowers.
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
Several stains, and uniform age darkening of the ground.
Some stitch losses to the alphabets, divider lines, motifs, verse and signature.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
