1831 Silkwork Sampler by Jane Morson
William IV, dated September 16th 1831. 17.25ins by 12.5ins wide. 1831 Silkwork Sampler by Jane Morson. Framed in an old, burr maple frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Triangles border inside a meandering floral border.
Colours green, cream, light brown, copper, gold, blue and black.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case.
Verse reads
'The grass and flow'rs,which clothe the
field,
And look so green and gay,
Touch'd by the scythe, defenceless yield,
And fall and fade away.
Ah! Trust not to your fleeting breath,
Nor call your time your own,
Around you see the scythe of death
Is mowing thousands down.'.
Signed and dated
'Jane Morson. September. 16 th. 1831.'.
A good set of motifs, including flowers,
lions,
birds,
dogs, heart,
cross,
stag,
potted flowering plants,
crowns,
fir trees
and a fruit basket.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
A number of small holes.
Some patchy staining around the edge, and a few specks elsewhere.
Minor stitch losses to the borders.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
